A 'regular' or weak verb in English has a very simple paradigm of entirely predictable forms. All of its persons have the same root; its preterite (and usually the past particple) is formed by the simple addition of -ed to the stem.

Children often have difficultly learning irregular verbs as they try to universally apply the rules for past tense and will often say things like "boughted" in an attempt to conjugate the irregular verb in a regular form.
