A skeletal formula is a shorthand representation of its molecular structure

(No C and H atoms are notated only their bonds).

Examples:

  1. /\/\/ for hexane, C6H14: at each corner or end of lineare line pieces their are single bonded C atoms, H atoms are filled in until 'saturated' and corners are about 105 or 120 degrees.

Other elements than C and H are placed by their symbols:

  2. Ethanol (CH3CH2OH) will be in skeleton: /\OH

Double bonds are also taken ( = is ethene, C2H4) and triple bonds ( = is ethyn, C2H2)

  3. /\=/\ for cis-3-hexene and /\=\/ for trans-3 hexen
  4. <> is cyclo-butane

Why do geometrical isomers differ in their physical and chemical properties?

Isomers differ in their structural formulas. For example, the chemical formula for the simple sugars glucose, fructose, and galactose is C6H12O6, but their structural formulas are different, which gives them different properties. Glucose, fructose, and galactose are isomers of one another.

What is the structural differences between glucose and starch?

Glucose is a monosaccharide (simple sugar) having the formula C6H12O6. D-glucose has 5OH, 1H and 1O functional groups. Starch is polymer of Glucose. It is made of many Glucose molecules attached by Glycosidic bonds. The formula is (C6H10O5)n, where n represents number of substitutions.

General formula of a simple sugar?

(Type of Sugar) : Name, Name, : formula(Hexoses, monosaccharides): Glucose, Fructose, Galactose: C6H12O6(Pentoses): Ribose, Xylose: C5H10O5Disaccharides: Sucrose (= table sugar), Lactose: C12H22O11Trisaccharides, etc.

What is 2C6H12O6?

Your source is incorrect, it is impossible to make this a structural formula. You may mean C6H12O6 (glucose). I had a booklet with C2H12O6 as a spelling error.

Is a chemical formula the same as a molecular formula?

A structural formula is a type of chemical formula, differing from a simple formula. The simple formula for Glucose, for example, is C6H12O6, and only says what is in that substance. The structural formula is a general sketched map of the elements and where they bond. Try googling a picture of the Glucose structural formula to see what I mean.

What information is given by a structural formula that is not given by a simple formula?

A structural formulae gives many informations, out of which some are, number of bonds between two molecule, angle of bonding, etc. Which can be never expressed in a simple formulae.

The other sugar is fructose. Fructose is a structural isomer of glucose. It has the same chemical formula but an altered structure.
