There is no Apple computer simply called the "Mac", aside from possibly the "Macintosh" system released in the 80's. I'm going to assume by "Mac", you mean "iMac".
In that case, the iMac is an all in one system (just a monitor, keyboard, and mouse. No tower) and is for the average consumer. The Mac Pro, however, is a tower (similar to many PC's) with a monitor. The Mac Pro is, as the name indicates, for professional users. If you're looking to work with audio or graphics, an iMac 20-inch (for Audio) or iMac 24-inch (for Graphics) would suffice.
