Union is an official labor organization (ex. Teamsters, SEIU). Collective bargaining is the process of reaching a contract with an employer. Collective bargaining may be done either by an official union/labor organization or the employees themselves if they are organized enough (i.e., employees don't need a union in order to be protected under the National Labor Relations Act and try to collectively bargain, although usually having a union makes things easier).
