Key differences are budget airlines often advertise a cheaper base fare however do so by removing all non-essential services. In other words if they didn't need two wings to lift the plane they would charge you for the second one... By contrast full service airline include many , if not all, of these extra in their base fares. Seriously though, whether Budget airlines are a great way to reduce your travel expenses depends entirely on what services you're happy to do without. If you begin to add additional services back into the base fare (i.e. baggage, food etc) the difference between budget carriers and full service airlines becomes far less noticeable. It is also worth mentioning taxes are not always included in these base fares for budget carriers. Guess the message is do your homework... The following link has a useful article comparing full service carriers with budget carriers. While is uses carriers in the Australian market as an example it does illustrate the point about how budget carriers are not always the cheapest option... and if they are, not always by as much as we might think.
