Hibernation allows you to remove all power - the session is saved to the hard drive- Standby keeps the session in RAM for a quick restart; but if you remove power (change battery on a laptop or pull the network cord on a stationary machine) you will loose your session and any unsaved work and potentially damage some software (though most are pretty good these days - you never can tell!)
hibernation
Hibernate saves an image of your desktop with all open files and documents, and powers down your computer. When you turn on power, your files and documents are open on your desktop exactly as you left them.Standby reduces the power consumption of your computer by cutting power to hardware components you are not using. Standby can cut power to peripheral devices, your monitor, and even your hard drive, but maintains power to your computer's memory so you don't lose your work.Standby reduces power consumption from about 50 to 2.5 watts, while Hibernate reduces it from about 50 to 1.8 watts, since modern computers are always using some power even when "off".Since the difference in the amount of power saved is insignificant and users are more likely to get in the habit of choosing standby because it is faster, standby may be the best choice for environmentally conscious users.
Standby effectivly shuts most of the computer down, but leaves it running (but you can't use it) Log off is closing your computer account, allowing others to use their accounts to access their data
You should use Standby if you are leaving your computer for only a few minutes. Put it in Hibernation when you are done for the day and won't access it again until the next day. Here is the scoop on Standby and Hibernation. Standby, shuts down all of the devices except RAM. Since RAM is not shut down your programs that you were working on are still in RAM and the computer will come alive faster. The bad news is if you suddenly lose power then you will lose whatever you were working on because it is still in RAM and not your hard drive. Hibernation, RAM is written to your hard drive and all devices are shut down including RAM. So you would not lose any information if you lost power. Put it in Hibernatiion when you go to bed, put it in Standby when you go grab a sandwhich.
Putting your computer in standby mode suspends all process on your computer, so no.
because computers need to be worked on
Stand-by on a computer is like a button to put it to sleep like an iPod.

No, many people will recommend to turn it off if you are leaving it unused for a very long period of time, but it can not actually damage the computer.
duplex system
When you computer is put into standby the computer is switched to a low power state... The memory within the computer is that holds the controlled windows state is volatile, which means that only anything is stored in RAM when there is a current passing through. So when the computer is in standby the RAM is active, the CPU is active and so is the hard drive... All of these devices are powered down dramatically.
You don't save money when TV/Laptop, PC is on Standby both when it is turned on or Standby you save no Electricity.
