Is ammonia gas is dangerous to human being?

Ammonia is highly toxic to human beings. Though the scientists are not able to identify the cause of the toxicity but they have certain speculations. The ammonia toxicity finally leads to a state called as comatose state that is accompanied by cerebral edema (increase in the water content of cerebrum.

What is litmus milk used for?

Litmus milk is an undefined medium consisting of skim milk and the pH indicator azolitmin. It is used to differentiate members within the genus Clostridium. It differentiates Enterobacteriaceae from other Gram-negative bacilli based on enterics' ability to reduce limus. The skim milk provides nutients for growth. The protein is casein and the lactose is for fermentation. Azolitmin is purple between pH of 4.6 and 8.2. It turns pink when pH reaches 4.5 and blue at a pH of 8.3. Litmus milk has four major reactions: lactose fermentation, reduction of litmus, casein coagulation, and casein hydrolysis. Lactose ferminatation turns the litmus pink due to acidity. If litmus is reduced during lactose fermentation it will turn the medium white. Acid may cause an acid clot this is due to the casein precipitating. Heavy gas production can cause stormy fermentation, this is due to the breaking up of the clot. Protelolytic enzymes such as chymotrypsin , rennin, and pepsin produced by some bacteria produce a curd. A curd differs from an acid clot since it will not dissolve in alkaline conditions. In those conditions the curd will tend to retract from the sides of the tube revealing a straw-colored fluid called whey. A digestion reaction leaves only a clear to brownish fluid. This is due to certain caseases digesting both acid clots and curds. Bacteria that only partially digest the casein produce ammonia raising the pH turning the litmus blue indicating an alkaline reaction. This can be either a blue or purple ring at the top of the clear fluid or bluing of the entire medium.

What household product are intoxicating?

A step stool, a ladder and a chair are all relatively safe household items to get you high If you're thinking of using household products for huffing, DON"T. They can cause irreprebable brain damage or death the FIRST TIME you do it. DON'T even try it.

What type of gas would cause coughing and vomiting?

The first thing I can think of is teargas. Then carbon monoxide, woodsmoke, chlorine gas, gasseous ammonia , like in tankers on the trains. Also do NOT mix household chemicals. Chlorine bleach and ammonia mixed creates a gas that can quickly overwhelm you in an enclosed space. You can die from this. Propane and natural gas will also cause this, even a slow leak. Plain gasoline. Lots more things. Try to be "green" and clean with white vinegar, baking soda, and dish soap as much as you can. The fewer chemicals in the home the better. All this marketing of "smell-good" products is hype. Nothing smells better than just plain clean.

How do hair products cause pollution warming?

The reason hair products are pollutants are because of the CFC's that are in them. Some hair color products contain environmental hazards like ammonia and thioglycolates. Ammonia has been linked to global warming and sulfates are toxic to humans and animals.

How do people get ammonia?

Ammonia is just a household chemical you can get from most grocery stores, pharmacies, and department stores. If you mean the disease, that is called pneumonia. You get it by being exposed to the germs which cause it and by being in poor health.

Why do you test with litmus paper?

The main use of litmus is to test whether a solution is acidic or alkaline. Wet litmus paper can also be used to test water-soluble gases; the gas dissolves in the water and the resulting solution colors the litmus paper. For instance, ammonia gas, which is alkaline, colors the red litmus paper blue. Chemical reactions other than acid-base reaction can also cause a color-change to litmus paper. For instance, chlorine gas turns blue litmus paper white - the litmus paper is bleached.[5] This reaction is irreversible and therefore the litmus is not acting as an indicator in this situation

Does litmus paper fade after being used?

There are a couple of different things this could mean. I'll try to address them all. Litmus paper is a strip of blotting paper soaked in a solution of an indicator called litmus. Litmus turns blue in the presense of basic solutions, and red in the presence of acidic solutions. If you use a strip of litmus paper to check on the acidity (or alkalinity) of a solution, it may change color. This color will probably slowly fade over time as the litmus reacts with acids or bases in the air, such as vinegar fumes or ammonia, until it reaches the sort of grayish state of neutral litmus. Exposing it to another acid or alkali should bring the color back. Also, if you immerse a strip of litmus paper in a solution, some of the litmus in the paper may leach out. This isn't likely to cause a dramatic fading, but it could be noticeable over time, especially if you keep using a single strip of litmus paper and rinsing it after each use.
