It undermines small family run business in city centre's and cause them to get less business because people are shopping in malls. This causes them to close and that family can no longer surport themselves which causes them to get bennifits and makes us the tax payers pay more in taxes. So if we spend that extra bit of money and effort going into town centres we could save peoples wellfair and our money.
personally i love shopping centres and yes there are disadvantages - along with everything in life. These are the disadvantages that i can think of...
1) all shopping centres have a potential terrorist attack risk. Think about it, in an airport you are searched and scanned but in a shopping centre anyone can walk in, or in some cases fly in....
2) there is always a high risk for shop keepers, that people can shoplift. They can quickly run away and get lost in the crowd.
3) For small retail shops it's hard to compete with the larger companies, if you had to choose between a small cute shop, or the biggest topshop you have ever seen, that has all the latest stock your friends are wearing you would probably go there.
4) If you are a disabled citizen you will find it extremely hard to go from one level to another. Because many people prefer elscalators, elevators are become more and more rare. As the rates of disabilities and injuries rise it is becoming harder for them to go to places.
5) Bullying is another high risk factor. There are many people there, and the majority of them will pass without helping. It may be nothing but a build up of things, but bullying is bullying
6) racism and sexism is also a risk because people become more confident when they are in crowds and surrounded by friends
7) protests and riots or group fights can begin and easily become out of hand. someone can easily knock someone accidentally and then they become involved, etc.
8) You can forget the time, as the majority of a shopping centre is enclosed
9) you can lose your children easily in big crowds
10) child kidnap risk is high
11) for teenagers, rape is a high risk factor
12) theft of newly bought items
i hope this helps and gets some more thoughts rolling
It reduces traffic of smaller shops squeezing them out of the market
the prices are inflated (which means the prices are higher)
it is expensive in mall
Busy and expensive
It can be really expensive.
