In order to be baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the "Mormon" church) you must meet a few basic qualifications.

*First, you must have been taught a series of lessons by missionaries or local church leaders. This process usually takes a minimum of a month.

*You must have attended a number of worship services, usually 4 or more.

*You must demonstrate that you have a personal testimony that Jesus Christ is your Savior and that the doctrines of the Church are true.

*You must understand at least the most basic doctrines of the Church.

*You must not be using any form of alcohol, tobacco, tea, coffee, or illegal drugs.

*If an adult, you must not be living with someone of the opposite gender who is not legally related to you.

*You must not be having any sexual relationship with someone who is not your legal spouse. (you must also not be involved any same-gender romantic relationship)

*If you have committed a felony or are on legal probation, there may be a waiting period before you can be baptized.

*You must have repented of any past sins and shown that you are ready to make the sacred covenants made at baptism.

*If under 18, you must have received permission from your parents.

The missionaries and congregation members will work with you to prepare for baptism. After you have met the requirements and expressed interest in being baptized, you will be interviewed by missionaries or by the local bishop. The interview questions are:

1. Do you believe that God is our Eternal Father? Do you believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, the Savior and Redeemer of the world?

2. Do you believe the Church and gospel of Jesus Christ have been restored through the Prophet Joseph Smith? Do you believe that the current Church President is a prophet of God?

3. What does it mean to you to repent? Do you feel that you have repented of your past transgressions?

4. Have you ever committed a serious crime (a felony)? If so, are you now on probation or parole? Have you ever participated in an abortion? a homosexual relationship? (answering yes to these questions won't prohibit the baptism, but might delay it)

5. Are you willing to obey the law of chastity, the law of tithing, the Word of Wisdom, and keep the Sabbath Day holy?

6. Are you prepared to covenant with God that you are willing to take upon yourself the name of Christ and keep His commandments throughout your life?

After the interview a final date will be set for the baptism and you can invite your family and friends to attend.
