Well sometimes the the antivirus programs detect asp files as viruses. That has happened with me it was a .asp file which used scripting.filesystem object.
So yes if your antivirus reports a virus... do check with the developer(s) if that's a legit file or not.
Absolutely. Be careful in what you download and always scan downloaded files with an anti-virus to lessen your risk of infection. Most anti-virus programs support scanning ZIP archives.
Answer to your question:The main thing is that you can download files that contain serious viruses. They can install on your computer when you open the file. Viruses are usually found in programs such as .zip and .exe type files. I suggest not downloading programs from limewire since many contain viruses. If you want to download a program, scan the files with a virus scanning program.

Virus definition files contain information that allows an antivirus program to recognize files which contain a virus. Many simpler viruses can be detected by so-called "scan strings", which are essentially pieces of code found almost exclusively in a particular virus. Today, heuristic technology, which attempts to detect viruses without definitions, is also important. It operates by analyzing the structure of programs to detect if they may be harmful to a computer.

If you wanted to identify if you have a virus then I suggest you download a virus anti scanning system. Such as AVG or Norton then after this it will give you details of where your virus is and then you can go and sort it out from there. AVG 8.0 is the latest to be released from them and probably one of the best online.
