Most Americans are off on Christmas Day, as many businesses are closed, with the exception of places like gas stations and some fast-food restaurants. If Christmas Day falls on a Saturday, then the holiday will be observed on Friday, generally; if it falls on a Sunday, then it will be observed on Monday.
Most Americans work on Christmas Eve, even if it is a shortened day, unless their employers are kind enough to be closed or if people take their own vacation days.
Many Americans save a good amount of their vacation and use the days so that they can have a week or two between Christmas and New Year's off.
