temporarily. in new moon, the Cullen family holds a birthday party for Bella, and while attempting to open a present, she gets a paper cut and almost the whole vampire family goes crazy, except for carlisle. After that, Edward is worried that he is a threat to her safety, and so to "protect" her, he leaves, and he and his family go to different places around the world. but later, Edward thinks Bella killed herself and is so horrified, he goes to Italy. he tries to reveal what he is to the human public by going into the sun, and if he did, he would sparkle. this would upset the volturi vampire coven, and they would kill him. but Alice retrieves Bella and they go to Italy to save him. he lives, but the volturi tell them that they either have to make Bella a vampire soon, or they would come and kill her...... but Edward and Bella get back together.
