Answer

When people speak in tongue they believe that's a special gift from the Lord Jesus Christ.

They believe according to Acts chapter 2. At Pentecost, the disciples were in the upper room and began to speak in tongues. Read Acts 2.

Speaking in tongues is thought to be proof that we are saved and that God lives in us and what ever we speak we have to live...and the tongues are Holy and that's just how we should all live.

Its basically our gift from God to prove once again, that he is only and divine and great. We consider speaking in tongues a gift from the holy spirit that you receive when you ask for it.

Not everyone can speak in tongues, for you must have the Holy Spirit in order to speak in this. Some people do believe you can do this anytime, however, the true "speaking in tongues" comes from the Holy Spirit. Not us. God is speaking through us, it is not exactly us.

As it is stated in the Book of Matthew, "...For it will not be you, for it will be the Holy Spirit talking through you", Jesus said.

Answer

Speaking in tongues is not just one of the nine spiritual gifts. Speaking in tongues is believed by Apostolics to be the evidence of the baptism of the Holy Ghost. And the baptism of the Holy Ghost is apart of the plan of salvation. If you do not have the Holy Ghost The Bible says in Romans 8:9 "But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his."

Yes God is concerned about obedience but speaking in tongues is also important, if it were not then it would not of been mentioned in the bible. Everything is written down in the bible for a reason and we are to take every Word of the Lord to heart.

Speaking in tongues is the initial evidence of receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost. Speaking in an unknown tongue is a totally separate thing from the baptism of the Holy Ghost. When we receive the Holy Ghost we speak in tongues. But there is a gift of speaking in unknown tongues that is part of the nine spiritual gifts that work in the body of Christ.

Answer

Jesus said that John came to baptized with water for the repentance of sins, but He came to baptize with fire. This is the Holy Ghost, speaking in tongues as evidence that you received the gift . Peter said " Repent, be baptized in the name of Jesus, and yea shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. This is for you and your children and grandchildren and to all that God calls. God is still calling today.

Jesus also said that you must be reborn again, of the water and the Spirit. This is salvation. The Holy Ghost will be your comfortor until His return and he will guide you in all truth.

AnswerSome people believe that 'speaking in tongues' is sanctioned by the Bible. Answer

In the words of Yeshua (Jesus):

Mark 16:17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; 18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

19 So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God. 20 And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.

Tongues are a sign, and one of the nine gifts of the Spirit.

The word "sign" is sēmeion - It means:

1) a sign, mark, token

a) that by which a person or a thing is distinguished from others and is known

b) a sign, prodigy, portent, i.e. an unusual occurrence, transcending the common course of nature

1) of signs portending remarkable events soon to happen

2) of miracles and wonders by which God authenticates the men sent by him, or by which men prove that the cause they are pleading is God's

It is apart of the great commission, in fact, we are told it should be a common occurrence among believers.

Tongues come by three different ways.

1. When a person is baptized in the Holy Ghost by Jesus (he is the baptizer with the Holy Ghost and Fire) what the person receives is a prayer language. This is what was received in the upper room in the book of Acts. There was no need for them to be able to speak in another language to communicate with each other in the upper room, they spoke the same natural language.

Paul tells us to pray in the spirit, this is in tongues as the Spirit gives us utterance.

1 Corinthians 14:13 Wherefore let him that speaketh in an unknown tongue pray that he may interpret. 14 For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful. 15 What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also. 16 Else when thou shalt bless with the spirit, how shall he that occupieth the room of the unlearned say Amen at thy giving of thanks, seeing he understandeth not what thou sayest? 17 For thou verily givest thanks well, but the other is not edified. 18 I thank my God, I speak with tongues more than ye all:

2. The gift of tongues, this is strictly chosen by the Holy Ghost in it's use and time. This allows the person to speak the language of someone that the speaker does not know. God created languages at the tower of Babel, this is how he dispersed men that were building the tower. This is the first mention of men speaking different languages.

Genesis 11:1 And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech.

2 And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there. 3 And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them throughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for morter. 4 And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth. 5 And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded. 6And the LORD said, Behold, the people isone, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do. 7 Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech. 8 So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city. 9 Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the LORD did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the LORD scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.

This is the type of tongue that needs an interpreter, the prayer language does not, it is between an individual and God. The gift of tongues that are a part of the spiritual gifts are between two people as God directs. These are the ones that need either the receiving person to know the language, say Korean. OR, for God to give a person that does not know the language the interpretation of what was being said.

This is why Paul said, if this takes place three times in an OPEN service and no one is able to interpret what was said, STOP! It is pointless to go on because no one understands.

This is an example of tongues as the GIFT:

Acts 2:5 And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven. 6 Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language. 7 And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans? 8 And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born? 9 Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judaea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia, 10 Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes, 11 Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God. 12 And they were all amazed, and were in doubt, saying one to another, What meaneth this? 13 Others mocking said, These men are full of new wine.

14 But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words: 15 For these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day. 16 But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel;

17 And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:

18 And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy:

19 And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke:

BUT, with the prayer language it is done in private, no interpretation is needed.

1 Corinthian 14:4 He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself...

It is personal, it builds faith and under girds the person but is useless in a group of people because they can not understand the prayer.

3. You can sing in tongues as well.

Corinthians 14:15 What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also.

The gift of tongues is an open sign and wonder that God uses to convert the lost. It is something that he can use his people to spread the gospel. Language is no barrier for him. As long as he has a person that is willing to be obedient to his will.

There are documented occurrences where men and women have preached entire sermons through the gift of tongues identical to the day of Pentecost in modern times. They were able to answer questions as well.

Tongues and interpretation of tongues are often found working together in the same setting.

Although the Church does not have an official teaching specifically on speaking in tongues, some Catholics do. The recognition of certain gifts as originating from the Holy Ghost is left up to competent authorities to determine.

Some people believe that 'speaking in tongues' is sanctioned by the Bible. Paul criticised those who claimed to speak in tongues, saying, in part: 1 Cor 14:6 "Now, brethren, if I come unto you speaking with tongues, what shall I profit you, except I shall speak to you either by revelation, or by knowledge, or by prophesying, or by doctrine?" 1 Cor 14:9 "So likewise ye, except ye utter by the tongue words easy to be understood, how shall it be known what is spoken? for ye shall speak into the air."

1 Cor 14:13-14: "Wherefore let him that speaketh in an unknown tongue pray that he may interpret. For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful. "

1 Cor 14:18-19: "I thank my God, I speak with tongues more than ye all: Yet in the church I had rather speak five words with my understanding, that by my voice I might teach others also, than ten thousand words in an unknown tongue."
