In January 2012 during visit of Slovak delegation in Czech republic Karel Schwarzenberg, Czech foreign minister, stated that "Czech Republic and Slovakia are the happiest divorced couple I know". Due to cultural, historical and language closeness and a fact that most of the population was born in Czechoslovakia, people on both sides of boarders do not perceive the other country to be really a foreign country. Czechs and Slovaks very well cooperate in economical, military and foreign policy. Despite some rivarly, ordinary people are getting well along, especially when meeting abroad. I am Slovak and I would describe Czech-Slovak relationship as relationship of brothers who maybe from time to time get into argument, but when it gets to real deal, they still have feelings for each other.
