Any "Smartphone" now requires a data plan to evenm do the simplest things as send/reciev calls and texts. I am not familiar with all providers, but AT&T offers a $15 data plan, which is what I use for my iphone.

Each iphone that you have is required to have a 30 dolllar monthly data plan. Its a way the businesses make money not needed but they will take away services if you do not pay this.
