Yes you do. Seat belt keeps you from sliding under the shoulder belt. Shoulder belt keeps your body (and head) from slamming forward into things like the dashboard. Put them both on. If it bothers you, pretend you are flying a jet fighter. Pilots wear them too.

What year of car do you need seatbelts?

Seatbelts were not mandatory until the 1950-1960's I believe, however, you can retro-fir your classic to have seatbelts. Although they are not original, they might not be a bad idea. I would put in lap belts for 60-70's cars, because it looks "more original". But if you have a Chevy Camaro, you could put in the one belt shoulder harness. Your choice, just don't modernize it too much.

How tight to tighten serpentine belt?

Your car most probably has an automatic belt tensioner that keeps the belt tight and in proper spec. If the belt has too much play in it, the belt tensioner will need to be replaced.

What is the height and weight recommended for kids to sit in the back seat without a car seat?

Although laws vary from state to state, you are much better off following the guidelines of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and keep your child who is over 40 pounds in a belt positioning booster seat until they are eight years old, unless they are already 4'9" tall. This is because 'a child under 80 lbs. is generally too small for an adult seat belt. The lap belt rides up over the stomach and the shoulder belt cuts across the neck. In a crash, this can cause critical or even fatal injuries.'

Why does the Belt keep breaking for troy bilt lawn tractor?

It could be a number of things. 1) It could be too loose causing it to slip too much and burning the belt. This could be from the incorrect belt or a tensioner that is out of adjustment or not working correctly. 2) It could be too tight and stretching the belt too much. 3) It could be a bad pulley, bearing, tensioner. If it is the deck belt it could be a spindle. If it is the drive belt it could be a problem in the rearend. Needless to say, you will need to do some investigating to figure it out.

What would cause the driver side shoulder strap to stay in the retracted position to the rear No noises can be heard as if a motor was activating?

There is a belt that if fed down through a motor and feeds out across the bottom of the door sill. Mine got chewed up in the motor and the fuse blew. In order to free it you must remove the drivers side panel behind the driver's seat and the motor is just above the lap belt recoil unit. There is a knob on top. By turning it you can manually wind out the belt. If the belt is too chewed up, go to a wrecker and get the entire track assembly that goes over your door and replace everything up from the motor. Use the knob to wind the new belt down through the motor and into the track. Check the fuse if the belt is not chewed up.
