The word 'Eskimo' originated with the Algonquins, a north American tribe that lived south of the tundra. The term means 'Eaters of Raw meat' which is fairly accurate as the 'Eskimo' have no trees to exploit on the tundra and any wood they would happen to have would be far to valuable to just burn. So they do eattheir meat raw. The term is racist but wasn't intended to be derogatory, simply a term meant to designate the race of people (of a particular genetic and linguistic clade) that live in the North American tundra. Now, we believe that any particular group of people (no matter how their distinctiveness is defined: be it race or religion, or politics) have the right to name themselves. And the 'Eskimo' prefer the term 'Inuit' which means 'the people'.

Now as for the living long thing. The Tundra and High Arctic are not known for their hospitable conditions. Eating meat raw (particularly Caribou) is an extremely good vector for a whole host of parasites. Cramped living conditions are good for spreading tuberculosis and the cold - well - you people don't know what cold is.

The rumor that Inuit live long probably sprang from a curious observation made recently that they have a near non-existent frequency of strokes. This has been attributed (speculatively) to their high (and I mean HIGH) diet of fish. This observation gave rise to a fad a few years ago of taking fish oil as a dietary supplement. Well, lots of weird things happen at the health food store. Be it known! If you really want to simulate the Inuit diet in the hopes of avoiding a stroke then you would have to take 500g of fish oil a day.
