Altogether, 8 years. Personally, I only know the specifics for active duty, which are: you can serve 4 years active, 4 years reserve OR 6 years active, 2 years reserve OR 8 years active.
When you enlist, into any of the military services, you are signing a contract for the next SIX years. Most Marines spend four years on active duty and two years on inactive duty. Reserve Marines spend two years on active duty and four years on active reserve. This consists of monthy meeting for one weekend and two weeks of training each year. But with Bush's war now going on you can pretty much figure all six years active whichever way you go.
Admiral Rickover (4-star) - Father of the Nuclear Navy with 63 years active duty.

The Spetsnaz are a branch in the Russian Military. In Call of Duty 4 they are considered the Russian equivalents to U.S. Marines.
From what i have seen and been told by the recruiters your minimum time is 8 years, 4 years active and 4 years inactive service. during this time of innactive service you are able to resume a civillian life, but the marines reserve the right to call you back at any time during this period. some special jobs require you spend 5-6 years active, jobs with alot of training involved, or require alot of money to be spent on your training usually. I hope this answer helps you or anyone else who is looking out
4-6 years depending on contract and MOS (job).
During WW2, it was for the duration of the war. During Vietnam, it was 18 to 24 months active duty; with an extra 4 years of INACTIVE duty (subject to emergency call-up).
Priority 4
Generally, your commitment to the military is directly proportional with the number of years ROTC pays for your school. If you are awarded a full 4-year scholarship through ROTC, you will owe the military 4 years of active duty service.
yes, you can go to college through the Marines. but afterwards you automatically HAVE to serve for 4 years i believe
