Hi: I have my second pitbull, Paula. She is a four year old female. I've had her since she was about 8-12 months old. We found her roaming the streets (in the country in PA) and made our best efforts to find her owner, to no avail. She is sweet, smart, clever and very cute and endearing. She arrived into a house with three other dogs, and became very close with another female (a blue doberman), who unfortunately died last year. The other two females have also died since she joined our family. they were both 16 at the time of their respective deaths. We now have a young male dog, who is her good buddy. We had to get another dog as she was very depressed when her friend died.

My first pitbull, Jake, was a male and was truly the gentlest dog I've ever had. I used to work with an animal rescue group when I lived in another state, and this male pitbull was rescued out of the Newark NJ spca. He was only 12 weeks old and had a broken leg and kidney problems. We believe he had been used as bait in dog fights. It started out for me as a foster situation, and it took me some time to nurse him back to health. By the time I did, I was so in love with him, I couldn't let him go. He lived with two female dogs, until his untimely death at only seven years of age, from a stroke. He was a dog with so much personality, and I will tell you that every person who ever met him quickly fell in love, as he was truly sweet and very funny.

Both my pitbulls like(d) to prance around on their toes whenever anyone did/does visit, and was/is be incredibly excited to have people come see THEM! It is quite funny, we call it "getting light in the loafers..." :-)

All our dogs come from rescue, and stay with us until they die. I have never given a dog back, can't even imagine it! Our dogs are always treated with tremendous affection, gentleness and love, and too, we set boundries for them, and do some training... we reap what we sow! Since not any of my dogs are used to children, I am always very mindful when children are around. Kids tend to move too fast, and can sometimes do something the dog perceives as a threat. When kids are around I let them play with the dogs for a short period of time with me always watching, and then the dogs are put into another area.

I have a neighbor who has three young children and a dog that is pit/ boxer mix. Very nice dog, and he is good with the kids. They've had him since he was a puppy, he is now about two.

I think it all depends upon the dog and the owner. I think it is best to start with a young dog if you have kids. You can tell something about a dog's personality, even when they are young, and can pick up on aggressive tendencies. Whatever dog you get, you must always remember that they are just that, a dog. An animal who cannot tell you when he feels threatened, and the wisest course is to not let the dog, any dog, be alone with kids they don't know, ever, and to teach your children how to behave around a dog, and make sure they understand what is threatening or hurtful to the dog.

An acquaintenance once visited with her very bratty, uncontrolable child, and in the blink of an eye, he was trying to ride my 16 year old retreiver, a very gentle dog, but I am actually surprised she didn't try to bite him, as she had a bad back and leg problems. I think it was because I was able to stop him from actually climbing her, or her probably would have been bitten.

Hope this helped.

Was the greek minotaur a legend?

The Minotaur was a creature from mythology, supposedly half bull and half human. No such creature could exist in reality, even if a human female did mate with a bull. No offspring would result.

What is the largest breed of pit bull?

Well, being that by law anything w/ American Pit Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier & Staffordshire Bull Terrier & all their mixes are considered a " Pit Bull"- it would be the American Bully. These dogs are Hybrids 1/2 AST & APBT. While an APBT doesn't get any larger than 75lbs - the Am Bully will exceed 110lbs easy. Some even over 150lbs.

How do you heat check cattle?

There are a bunch of different tools and methods to heat-check heifers and cows, some listed here: 1. The old-school method of watching the cows and heifers for any signs of mounting activity or if the females are acting a little more hyperactive than usual. 2. Using a gomer bull with a specialized halter that holds a ball of chalk (with a bright colour like blue, yellow, red or even pink) under the bull's chin. This helps to mark those females that are in heat and that have been ridden by the gomer bull. 3. Using pressure-sensitive markers stuck onto the hindquarters of each female. If the marker is tripped (you see a red bar), the female has been ridden and is in heat. 4. Blood test to see if a female has an excess amount of estrogen in her bloodstream.

How many babies would a pit bull have as the first litter?

There's no set amount of puppies a pitbull can have. It could be anywhere from 1 puppy to 12. It all depends on the size of the female, her fertility, the studs fertility, and when they were bred. I even heard of people having 16 puppies in one litter.

Can a black cow and a bull have a white calf?

No. Black is a dominant colour, no matter what colour the bull is. If the bull is white, the calf will be grey. If a bull is black, the calf will be black; if a bull is a blue roan, the calf will be most likely a darker roan or even black; if a bull is red or brown, the calf will be black; if a bull is yellow or orange the calf will be either grey or black.

Why do cows mount other cows?

It's not really known exactly why cows or heifers will mount other cows or heifers, though possibly as a show of dominance. It certainly is a good way to tell whether a particular cow or heifer is in estrus, but as to why they do it, it's most likely due to other cattle sensing the increase in pheromones being given off and estrogen activity that is going through the female's system when she is in estrus. The mounting behaviour is probably done out of sexual frustration or excitement, especially if there's not a bull around to settle that female that is in estrus. However, females will even mount each other as a way to attract a bull. Even the cow or heifer that is in estrus will mount a bull!
