There is no prophecy in scripture that provides evidence that Jesus was God's son. However it is such an important claim in Christian belief, that much energy is expended in attempting to find Old Testament passages that might just prove this point. Perhaps the nearest potential evidence is that Isaiah 7:14 supposedly prophesied that Jesus would be born of a virgin, a feat that could only be carried out by divine (or demonic) intervention.

This passage is not found in the Hebrew scriptures but does appear, as a mistranslation, in the Septuagint. Although not actually mentioning Jesus or Mary, it does say: "Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel."

However, what the prophet Isaiah actually wrote in the original Hebrew was, "Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, the young woman shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel." The 'prophecy' was for a young woman about whom Isaiah was speaking and about a child to be called Immanuel. The young woman in question did have a child just a few verses later in Isaiah's book, and Isaiah never wrote of a virgin or of the virgin Mary. Those who need proof that Jesus was the son of God will continue to look for proof of their beliefs. Those who do not need proof will be content to rely on faith alone.

What evidence does the Bible give us for God and Jesus?

The Bible talks about God and Jesus at length, and to some this is evidence. Objectively, however, it is not proof because a collection of related books can not prove itself. The biblical evidence becomes proof if the Bible tells us something about God and Jesus that we can confirm from independent, extra-biblical sources. The Bible does not provide this level of evidence.
