One reason that media advertisements for tobacco are controlled is to protect public health, particularly among youth, as exposure to such ads can lead to increased smoking initiation. Additionally, tobacco advertising is restricted to minimize the normalization of smoking behavior and reduce overall tobacco consumption. However, a lack of evidence showing that tobacco ads significantly affect adult smokers’ behavior would not be a reason for controlling such advertisements.
