I guess they assume their sex Biology is like humans in that respect. One Sci Fi writer dealt with vaguely benign Dinosaurian like creatures that to make the tribe increase, needed a minimum of Three creatures of different genders. It is conceivable the Conjugal act resembles a l20 degree angle- a Peace Sign, well, that"s a good sign, Mr. Secretary of Defense! this was Heinlein in the novel The Star Beast. It was called a Lummox, and was a female at that!
