Large trucks tend to use Duramax diesel. Some manufacturers that produce diesel trucks are Chevy, Ford, and Dodge.

Duramax diesel has been an option in Chevy and GM vans, pick-ups, and medium duty trucks since 2001. If you plan on buying used, be aware that not all trucks will have the duramax diesel, but your local dealership should be able to get one for you.
For the S10 and 1500, the manual was the NV3500 and the automatic was the 4L60E. For the 2500 and 3500, the manual was the NV4500 and the auto was the 4L80E. For their medium- and heavy duty trucks, manual transmissions from Eaton Fuller and Rockwell were available, while automatic transmissions from Allison were available.

These are the 2 transmissions used that year by chevy. 1/2 Ton trucks have the 4L60E transmissions in them ONLY. The 3/4 tons used the 4L80E trans. in them.
the 2010 silverado is the strongest and most powerful truck on the market and the 2011 looks to be even better with the Chevy duramax and Allison transmission it cant be beat
