Why is animal rights important?

Because unlike humans, animals find it hard to speak for themselves, they can try to pretect themselves, but a lot of the time humans will win. Humans are more intelligent and sophisticated, but every life is worth something. Animals are an easy target, and they are paying for it. Many humans abuse animals, and thousands of animals die every year, circuses, animal testing and humans kill animals all the time. Baby seal clubbing, whaling, pollution and oil spills are very bad for wildlife. Animals can't stop this, so humans have to, that is why animal rights are important.

YES, of course animal rights are important.I mean would you want to be tortured, poked and hung even though you've done nothing wrong?Animals do not understand these kinds of things, but they have emotins and feelings too, they can feel hunger, thirst, loneliness and pain.Most of the time when we test on animals it is unbeneficial for us! One experiment i know of was tested on rabbits, they were trying to find a cure for stroke, they tested hundreds of medicines on them, out of that only 30 worked and the rest died.When it was tested on humans only 3 worked. ---- NO they are not, they are an indulgence of personal perference but that's it, and no matter how hard you try you will not become an animal, you can be "tortured, poked and hung even though you've done nothing wrong" but not an animal. Here's why:

Poor people or animals? * 800 million people go to bed hungry everyday, grazing animals such as cows are our only way of converting fiber into usagable energy. Rights for people or animals? * Trillions are invested in livestock related infostructure. * Some pharmaceuticals can only be produced (or produced in sufficient quantities) with animals. Animal Rights is the idea that every sentient being deserves equal consideration. That is that animals do not deserve to be treated any lesser than humans. This being said, Animal Rights are important because it gives animals a value. It stops them from being abused, mistreated and also helps us to understand that they are beings just like us.

It would be logical to conclude that since atheists generally have demonstrated their ability to think problems through and arrive at satisfactory solutions (they became atheists after all) they would examine the question of animal/human interaction in the same way. Their conclusions on each facet of the question would likely be defendable.
