No. The Bill of Rights protects unarmed citizens from being fired on by soldiers.
Yes they are
There is not a specific number I can think of. But I do have to say, probably over 10 or 20 thousand armed U.S. soldiers. But hey, at least Osama Bin Laden is dead.
First, you need to define "militia". The Militia is the body of adult citizens that are NOT part of the Armed Forces (National Guard is part of the Armed Forces). Please note that when the 2nd Amendment was written, there WAS no National Guard.
Some slogans for ratification of the constitution are:Don't deny, ratify!Nothing will preserve liberty but down right forceAn armed nation is a free nationA right delayed is a right deniedAn unarmed society is a society that must live in fear of government!Enslavement is lie old age. It creeps up on you.God created man - the Constitution keeps them equal.
Bloody Sunday, aka, Bogside Massacre, which happened on the 30th January 1972, Derry, Northern Ireland. 13 unarmed civil right protesters were killed by soldiers.
Soldiers of the Right happened in 1989.
There is no credible evidence that George Washington specifically said, "when government takes away citizens' right to bear arms, it becomes citizens' right to take away government's right to govern." This phrase is often attributed to various interpretations of the Second Amendment and the Founding Fathers' views on government and individual rights. However, it does not appear in Washington's writings or speeches. Washington did emphasize the importance of armed citizenry for defense and liberty, but the exact wording in question is not directly linked to him.
It was the patriots--Actually, it's a lot more controversial than that. The Patriots weren't that innocent, either. They were calling British troops names and pelting rocks at them. Some soldiers panicked and fired. The colonists had a right to be angry, but to throw things at them then later saying that the soldiers fired at unarmed protesters is a little strange. I'm not picking a side here, I'm just trying to prove that not everything the Patriots did was right or rational, in this case.
