Do you have to be recon to go to USMC Combat Diver Course?

No, you do not have to be a Recon Marine to attend the USMC Combat Diver Course. However, the course is primarily attended by Recon Marines, as it is part of their specialized training. Other Marines, such as Force Reconnaissance and certain Special Operations units, may also attend the course.

What is the marines recon?

Marine Force Recon is a branch of MARSOC (Marine Special Operations Command) and their job is to locate HVT's (High Value Targets) and other threats for the main infantry. There is no question about it, they are the most elite fighters in the United States. Many say that Navy SEALs are more elite, but there are over 3,000 SEALs in the world, and only about 300 Force Recon Marines in the world.

What function does Marine RECON play in the US Marines?

Marine RECON (Reconnaissance) is a specialized unit within the US Marines that conducts covert and amphibious reconnaissance operations. Their primary function is to gather critical information about enemy activities, terrain, and other factors in order to support decision-making by the commanding officers. They also conduct direct action missions, such as raids and ambushes, and provide intelligence support to other Marine Corps units.

Why can't Marine Force Recon become SEALs?

Navy and Marine SpecOps forces personnel are dedicated to their respective branches; the biggest exceptions are aviation (Naval and Marine Corps aviators fly off of Navy carriers) and Navy Corpsmen, who serve as combat medics for the Marines. The Navy also provides the Chaplains, Doctors, Dentists and JAG officers for the Marine Corps. The only combat trained officers from the Navy that serve with the Marines are those assigned as NGLOs, Naval Gunfire Liaison Officers that work with the Marines in coordinating Naval Gunfire support to the Marine forces. The only other Sailors who train with the Marines are the Navy's SeaBees, who must complete Marine Corps Basic Infantry training. Their respective missions are also different; where Force Recon is first and foremost an advance scouting/recon unit deep inside enemy territory (ahead of invasion or larger forces), the SEAL's are geared more toward active combat behind enemy lines, as well as providing support to other government agencies (e.g., CIA, NSA). That doesn't mean that they don't work together; they do. But their respective training is much different. Of course a Marine can always leave the Corps and become a sailor and try to become a SEAL and vice-versa, but the likelihood of that happening is slim to none, and slim's out of town. Once you achieve the rank, respect, and honor that the hard work and training has given you by being selected, you don't want to leave.

Are seals tougher than recon?

no, Recon also the USMC has Force Recon... The Marines special operations are classified under MARSOC and have rigorous training for the Marines you have to first be in an infantry unit for four years then reenlist and go through sometimes it takes two years of training so six years total. plus RECON are the elite of the elite. Navy isn't elite only seals are elite and all Marines are elite but RECON is the tougher group. SEALS are still tough just not like RECON, different training. USMC Carlos Hathcock, Recon sniper has 93 confirmed kills. CHESTY Puller USMC awarded four navy crosses for bravery second highest under medal of honor and he had four of them. USMC John Basilone held off 3,000 enemy troops with their own machine gun with one other Marine whom was killed in the battle of Guadalcanal during the second world war and then single handedly hacked up three enemies with his jungle machete and for this was awarded the Medal of honor. but respect both.

What does a seal do?

unconventional warfare, recon, foreign internal defense, personnel recovery, counterterrorism, and some other classified things

What is the best trained branch of the US military?

How do you join the royal green jackets?

well I suppose the simple answer is you can't!...the Royal Green Jackets along with other regiments were amalgamated into The Rifles Regiment. The 1st battalion Royal Green Jackets became the 2nd battalion The Rifles Regiment, and the 2nd battalion Royal Green Jackets became the 4th Battalion The Rifles Regiment. It appears the 3rd battalion and 4th Battalion (T.A.) are now disbanded.

Can Marines be veterans?

Can a marine become a army ranger?

Certainly. You get out of the Marines at your normal separation date, then reenlist into the Army for the 75th Ranger Regiment. As far as walking into your Marine Corps first sergeant's office and telling him, "First Sergeant, I want to be an Airborne Ranger! I want to live a life that's filled with danger!" he will either laugh at you, put you on additional training for three days for having heretical thoughts, tell you about Marine Recon, or all three at the same time. Ranger school is a school (just like airborne, pathfinder, etc). Yes, servicemen from other branches of the military (and foreign militaries) are allowed to attend Ranger school to receive the Ranger tab. Graduating from Ranger school does not mean you are in a Ranger battalion (or a Ranger, for that matter.) To be in a Ranger battalion, you must be in the Army (since all Ranger Batts are army units.) Marines do not need to enlist with the Army to become a Ranger. Much like a any Army Soldier can elect to receive Ranger Training, so can a Marine. Actually, there are documented cases of Marines that have scored the highest in their Ranger class because they were more prepared for the stress. As a perspective Marine, I have looked into this personally and done the research. If you have any further questions, seek a recruiter, because he can help you more. A Marine can earn his Ranger Tab, he is only considered a tabbed Marine. He will not be able to wear the tab (although some Marines elect to sew the Ranger tab under the front pocket) A Marine will often be nicknamed, ie. Ranger LoGiudice, or some other acquired nickname. I served with 1st Recon Bn, 1st MarDiv and our unit tried to send one Recon Marine per Ranger School Class. I attended Class 3-95, you might remember that class, as 4 Ranger students died in the Florida swamp phase. I am now Ranger Tabbed. I cannot publicly display it the USMC uniform. However, if you get out of the USMC and enlisted in the Army, you could then join a Ranger/SF unit, and therefore be a considered a Recon Ranger, I served as a Army National Guard Medic for seven years after serving on the active side of the Marine Corps. I am proud of all my military service. My former MOS was 8654 - Recon Marine, Airborne, Scuba qualified. I the new Recon MOS is 0326. Recon is the MOS to have if you have the heart. I attended the best schools and my career was on the right path, not a life for a married Marine. A side note: Ranger School was no joke.

How does not having marines affect the military?

Marines are usually fighting in the sea, so if there were no marines, then there would be more attack's from other countries who came by using the sea.
