ANSWER: My beagle can't wait to get in the water. Now, let me clarify. We take him boating every weekend during the summer and he can't wait until the boat is anchored so he can get in the water and sit on his mesh raft. He will sit out there for hours at a time. He does not like to swim too much though. He is pretty lazy so he enjoys just sitting in his old mesh raft most of the time.

∙ 13y ago- Most do a few may not. I take my dogs to the 'doggy beach' in the summer and see many Beagles that love to swim. There is one old beagle named 'Haywire' that we have grown very fond of and he really kicks up a storm to get into that water. They may not be the best swimmer and certainly aren't as smooth looking in the water as many of the larger dogs, but he's having fun.
- Actually most beagles do not like the water. I have never seen one that does. Of course that doen't mean that you won't come across an occasional one that does like water.

There are no particular breeds of dog who generally do not like to swim, it will vary with individuals. Not all dogs can swim automatically, this is a common misconception. Any dog who goes in or near water should be protected from drowning by wearing a dog life jacket - even if your dog can swim. There are many reasons why so many dogs drown every year.
