They do sleep even though they don't have eyelids to close their eyes!
They will often rest in one spot with slow gill movement and be very still, you will see this most often when tank lights are out and are basically sleeping. A loud noise may startle them and they will quickly move into action again.
They will sometimes wedge them selves in gaps, sleep sideways and even vertical but lying in unusual positions can also be a sign of them being unwell. If they won't move when you disturb them they could be stuck, ill or dead. Upside down is usually death or close to it

Playing games with fish if very diffucult. The best thing to do with your betta is to put your finger on the fish bowl and move it around to see if your betta will follow it. If she does, that means she is hungry. Feed her. Not hungry? Then just talk to your fish, though I must warn you, they might not be very sympathetic. BUBBLES ROCK!!!!
