Normally they don't but it's a proven fact that birds being caught by a plane's turbines could somehow affect flight performance and pose a serious threat.

Planes regularly hit birds while flying or on takeoff and landing. Almost all only cause a slight dent in the plane. Birds have gone through windshields and killed pilots or into turbines and shutdown engines, but that is very rare.

Most birds will simply leave their mark if you come in contact with one.

Probably, when a bird hit the plane, this may cause the pilot nervous and he/she may not control over the plane. But if the bird hit any of the turbines it is very dangerous. The pilot need to start the other engine if possible. The turbine stop working the plane cannot be control and there will be fire broke out easily. When there is fire, no electronic or mechanical device work that result the passengers to yell and scream than to come out. They will be compel to breath the LAST LAST LAST.
