They will if the cat is not lazy or fat or too small. If you get magpies in the garden, I would recommend keeping the cat inside, whether it's a beach ball on legs or not. Bells on collars are bad cos they not only drive the cat mad at night when it's rolling around trying to get to sleep, it drives people mad as well!
