Cats do not necessarily eat what they "fetch", really (they are actually chasing for prey) and biting them, some vermin live and some die. It depends on the mood of the cat, their instincts, whether they're irritated.... because they can chase after humans too and bite or scratch you really hard on the legs and we wouldn't know if these animals are upset or were just playing. Maybe that's why cats scratch...for defense when irritated so they would chase and bite you until it hurts so you won't bother them again.
