Cats are more likely to like you as a playmate and food-bowl-filler instead of as a packmate. This doesn't mean that cats are not nice - it's just the way cats are. They are the only pet that we have which has never really been domesticated. Cats moved into human houses, but they are still wild animals inside!

Put food out for them. Also blink a lot. I read that blinking is a friendly gesture to cats.
