Considering the facts that life can only come from other life and that birds reproduce sexually and also have separate distinct genders and only members of the opposite genders can have a chick, it is undoubted that each and every chick has at least one mother. IF the chick should have more than one mother, it is because one mother was its biological mother but abandoned the chick.and therefore another creature took over the motherly role. IF the chick appears to have no mother, it is simply because it has been orphaned and needs a new replacement mother as soon as possible. Please call 555-987-6543 to order a NEW replacement avian mother for only $799.99 now if you feel that your bird needs some parental help.

Are Araucana chickens good mothers?

While the Araucana hen is considered to be "more wild" than most chickens, they are good mothers. Once they decide to go broody it is hard to persuade them off the nest. Putting extra eggs under them once they do set, is well, risky to the fingers. They are active in the defense of the chicks once hatched and can herd the babies quite well. I lose chicks to some of the more aggressive hens every year but not when they are taken care of by an Araucana mother.

Will chicks imprint on humans?

Yes, chicks can imprint on humans, especially during the critical period shortly after hatching. Imprinting is a form of learning where young animals recognize and follow the first moving object they encounter, which is often their mother. If handled gently and frequently, chicks may view humans as their caregivers. However, this bond may not be as strong as that formed with their biological mothers.

Has anyone else had problems with recent hen attacking chicks it didnt happen last hatch pekin lavs and lemon cuckoo pekins have both pecked their chicks have now separated them?

I don't think I have ever had that problem but it sounds like the mother is trying to kill the chicks! If so, there must be a reason. Mothers purposely kill chicks if there is a problem, (ie, the chicks are not hers, the chick is unhealthy/ill/dying/in pain). If she is just pecking she might be telling them off or telling them who's boss. But I'm no chicken expert breeder so I wouldn't know.

Are peahens good mothers?

Yes, peahens are generally considered good mothers. They are attentive and protective of their chicks, often leading them to food and shelter shortly after hatching. Peahens typically raise their young in small groups, teaching them essential survival skills. However, like many birds, their success as mothers can depend on environmental conditions and the presence of predators.

How does a hen feed the chicks?

Chickens do not feed their young. Chicks are hatched knowing how to eat and drink. Newly hatched chicks do not need food or water for up to 72 hours after they emerge from the shell, they will dry out, fluff up and start to explore their surrounding under the watchful eye of the mother hen. After a day or two they will venture out of the nest and search for food without the mothers help.

Do baby flamingos drink there mothers blood?

No, baby flamingos do not drink their mothers' blood. Instead, they are fed a nutrient-rich substance known as "crop milk," which is produced by both parent flamingos. This milk is a mixture of digested food and is essential for the growth and development of the chicks. The idea that they drink blood is a misconception.
