Don't confuse Schizophrenia with 'multiple personality disorder'. the two are not the same. Schizophrenia can be described as dissociative disorder... where the sufferer may disconnect from reality. they hear things, see things, etc that aren't there.

CAN SOMEONE WITH DID HAVE SCHIZOPHRENIA AND NON-SCHIZOPHRENIC PERSONALITY?

Yes, it's possible for someone with Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) to have alters (distinct personalities) with different characteristics, which might include traits that resemble symptoms of schizophrenia. However, this doesn't mean that the person actually has schizophrenia. DID and schizophrenia are separate mental health conditions with distinct diagnostic criteria. It's important to consult with mental health professionals for accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment.

How can you tell if someone is skitzofrenic?

The early signs of schizophrenia include deterioration of personal hygiene, forgetfulness, depression, inability to express sadness or joy, inappropriate laughter or crying, social withdrawal, oversleeping or insomnia and developing irrational suspicions. Schizophrenia is often confused with multiple/split personality disorder but they are two very different conditions and schizophrenia is far more common. Schizophrenia is not the development of multiple personalities but, rather, becoming split off from reality.

How many types of schizophrenia are there?

Depending on how you divide it, there are either 5 or 2 types of schizophrenia. The five types are paranoid, disorganized, residual, catatonic, and undifferentiated. The two types are positive (or Type I) schizophrenia and negative (or Type II) schizophrenia. Positive schizophrenia consists of mainly positive symptoms. Negative schizophrenia consists of mainly negative symptoms.

What are early signs of schizophrenia in children?

The behavior of children and teens with schizophrenia is different from that of adults with this illness. It is rare for symptoms to develop before age 12. Schizophrenic behavior develops gradually in children and may begin with children talking about strange fears or ideas. Early warning signs of schizophrenia in children include: * Trouble distinguishing dreams from reality * Confusing television or movies with reality * Seeing things and hearing voices that are not real * Confused thinking * Extreme moodiness * A belief that people are "out to get them" * Behaving younger than one's age * Severe anxiety and fearfulness * Severe problems in making and keeping friends Children with schizophrenia must have a complete evaluation. Parents should ask their family physician or pediatrician to refer them to a psychiatrist, preferably a child and adolescent psychiatrist, who is specifically trained and skilled at evaluating, diagnosing, and treating children with schizophrenia.
