No they dont
chinchillas bathe in a special kind of dust you can buy it at the same store you bought your chinchilla at. And im also sure that someone at the store can explain it to you in further detail. i Hope this answered your question.
WITH DUST?!
chinchillas take dust bath because that is how they wash themselves also because they live in mountains and that's the only thing they have to wash themselves with. :D
chinchilas bathe in a powdery dust or volcanic ash because of where they are native from!! hope this is helpful!
As a chinchilla owner, I can tell you that chinchillas would be terrified of being immersed in, or sprayed with, water. It is not natural for them. The ancestors of our domestic chinchillas lived in the Andes Mountain Range spanning Argentina, Chile, Bolivia and Peru. They lived at sea level and at high altitudes. Because of the temperature, they accumulated a lot of moisture in their fur, which is very dense. They lessened this moisture by rolling in volcanic ash found in the Andes. That practice is ingrained in all chinchillas. If you place a large igloo with Blue Cloud Chinchilla Dust in it (the best brand), even if a chin has never seen such an object, or been exposed to chin dust, it will immediately know what it is for and will quckly proceed to take his first bath. It is instinctual, not something that is taught. View www.chinchilla-advisor.com for more information on bathing chinchillas.
Chinchillas originated in the Andes and are burrowing animal they clean themselves with the volcanic dust of this habitat they prefer more colder weather.
No! Is just their way of getting clean and matt free. Dust baths are highly recommended.
The chinchilla has adapted by having large ears to help other preditors. Dust and sand are common in a chinchillas habitat. So they will clean themselves, chinchillas either gather in groups to help groom each other or roll around in the volcanic dust found mostly in their habitat. Though chinchillas mostly feed on hay if they are bought as a pet, in the wild, they know to nibble to keep their teeth trim and healthy.
to get rid of mites and other things on it, it also helps to keep them clean
Yes. They can but are more likely to have lice. This can be treated by sprinkling Sevin dust on the ground in the areas they like to lay and dust bathe.
Gerbils do not require dust baths like Chinchillas. If you are able to get a gerbil to try it then use a dust bath formula from a pet store. In my experience they don't like baths.
Chinchillas use dust to clean excxss oil, excretory residue and food bits off their bodies, much as people use dry shampoo.
