Scientists believe that a tidal wave will hit porthtowan at some point. After months of reseach scientists have dicovered that it will happen at approxemetly the 23rd of September 2009. I just get the feeling that the above answer is tongue-in-cheek! If it isn't, then who has suddenly got incredible precision in forecasting earthquakes?
Why is it necessary for scientists to record and publish their results?
This is a way of letting other scientists know about the different research projects that have been going on. Also other scientists can review the published results.

Scientists now believe that at the center of almost all galaxies is a super massive black hole. There may be a little merit to the analogy, but what's going on near the black hole is completely unlike any imaginable storm.
