i was told by an employee at advanced auto parts that it is a pretty common problem for ford/Lincoln/Mercury products... i have a 95 Lincoln Mark VIII with the same problem, the part is around $5
There are door switches that cause the light to go off. Shut all doors and press gently on each door to see if the light goes out. If not then the door switches will need to be removed one at a time to find the bad one.
Sounds like one of your door switches is bad.
One of the door ajar switches is showing an open door. The switches are part of the latches inside the door.
The dome light won't go out because one of the plastic door switches is bad. This switch is the one that controls the lights when the door is shut. It is probably the driver side door switch. Go to the dealer the switch is about 10 dollars. I have replaced mine on my 2000 Neon at least 10 times in 5 years. It is an easy fix. Good luck. Joy Your dorr ajar switches or ground from the headlamps is bad. First try lubing up the door switches and shut the door several times.
They have problems with the door switches.

Yes, light switches can go bad over time due to wear and tear, which can cause lights to flicker or not turn on properly.
yes, anything that is man made can and will go bad eventually Either the pin that switches the door has broken or the acuator motor has gone bad. Easy to fix.
it is very likely that your door panel window switch is bad. mine didn't last but six months and i have heard others having problems with these switches, as well. only thing to do is order a new switch from your Ford dealer as these are dealer item only. won't find them at local auto parts store. also, it's not that hard to remove your door panel and replace the switch (or switches). don't know really why the window switches go out my best guess is that the contacts go bad or stop making contact when used. good luck.
door ajar switches are located in each door they slowly go out one by one if i was you i would replace all four i did
One of your door switches is probably malfunctioning. Find the switches usually on the hinge side attached to the body and use a little wd40 and move it in and out and it may start working. If not the bad one will have to be replaced.
