While dried dates can have sugar or oil added, they usually are sold without further preparation. Dried dates have a naturally high sugar content - about 80%; the remainder consists of protein, fiber, and trace elements including boron, cobalt, copper, fluorine, magnesium, manganese, selenium, and zinc - so they preserve well and are quite sweet without further treatment. Partially dried pitted dates may be glazed with glucose syrup for use as a snack food.
They should not have either added but sometimes vendors do add an oil to keep them supple (look on the packaging for this information). Sometimes they also have sodium metastability added so that they keep their colour and fresh longer; this too should be detailed on the packaging.
It's completely identical nutrition-wise, assuming the dried fruit you're eating is simply dried fruit. Sometimes, dried fruit will be sold with added sugar, corn syrup or oil (this will be shown on the label)- which makes it less nutritiously dense. Oil is added on top of the valve cover. There is a cap, that usually says oil on it. Remove the cap and the oil can be added here.
