Plug-in hybrids or electric vehicles have an additional risk, in that, each day the owner must use a high voltage plug to charge the car. Over time this plug can be damaged and expose the owner to dangerous levels of electricity. With the increased use of public charging stations, this risk could be a problem.
The best way to reduce this risk is to wear a pair of OSHA or ASTM insulated gloves when plugging using the charging plug. These gloves are made of latex and have a one year expiration date imprinted on the gloves, after which, they must be re-certified. Prior to an accident, it is prudent to have a pair of these gloves in the car.
