As in eukaryotic cells, the ribosomes are the sites of polypeptide synthesis.

Like the ribosomes in other organisms, eubacterial ribosomes are constructed of RNA and proteins. However, the details of their chemical composition are different from those of the other major groups (eukaryotes and archaeobacteria) and are characteristic of eubacteria.
