They especially like to come out at the midsummer noght, it is the time when humans have the most chances of seeing them. Really, they come out whenever they feel like it, but they are really hard to see. Fairies come out when the flowers they are dependent on blossom. They of course can extend this activty time but they don't really care to.

The fairies are an extremely diverse family and have specialized species that feed off of every imaginable food source. There are fairies that eat grass, fairies that eat worms, fairies that eat fruit of every description, fairies that eat algae..... and so on.

There is no fairy known as the 'summer fairies' there is however a Sun Flower fairy, a Golden Rod fairy (appears in A Midsummer's Night Dream), a Fire Weed Fairy, a Skunk Cabbage Fairy....
