As a general rule, male dogs are more likely to mark territory. However, a female dog will also display territory-marking behaviour if she is of a dominant nature or breed, and secure in her position as head of her "pack", whether that be her family or group of other pet dogs.
Male gerbils I don't think mark their territory, but they may fight. I have 2 males that have been together their entire lives, and they're perfectly fine.Tthey sleep together, groom each other, all that cute stuff. I guess it all depends on how long they've been together. Any female animal you can pretty much put together as long as you haven't set a stage for dominance: Putting one female animal in a cage before the other. You have to put them in at the same time.
When my first gerbil died, I got 2 more females and the lady at Petco said to put them into the cage simultaneously. Perfectly fine, absolutely no problemo.
Hope this helps.

Whether that is the reason or not, is indefinite. However, the male has hormones in his urine that the female cat responds to, and these could trigger her mating response. no, don't they sniff each other out? The female emits pheromones when she is in heat that the male cat responds to. So the order is, the female is in heat and THEN the male sprays to mark territory.
yes it's a territory thing!Another AnswerHow much a cat urinates depends on what it is fed, and how much water it drinks. Gender has no factor. An intact (not neutered) male cat will spray as many surfaces as possible to mark out territory and to attract a female. Unspayed female cats do this also to some extent. Neutered cats, female or male, do not urinate more than the other.
Male beta fish are very territorial. Two male beta fish cannot live in the same tank or they will fight. Male betas make bubble nests to mark their territory.
Well, males like to mark their territory. I would say males. I have both, you just have to train them young. :)
Male and female dogs urinate on vertical surfaces in order to mark their territory, or to express anxiety or heightened activity in the presence of "nonresident" dogs or dogs of the opposite gender. Urine can also be used to communicate one's dominance in such a territory.
Only wild dogs mark territory. Dogs don't have to because their territory is defined by a fence or walls.
