Cows are not birds, thus they cannot be caged, they can only be stabled or confined to a corral. As far as life span is concerned, that all depends on what the culling standards are of the producer. Typically, though it is agreed that "free-range" cows do live longer than so-called "caged" or confined cows.

Free range meat is less likely to have steroids or other chemicals that non-free range meat is more likely to have. The USDA has no regulations on what constitutes are free range egg. Therefore a non-free range chicken can have free range eggs. And a commercially raised free range chicken is usually not free range.

Is the chicken from KFC free range or caged?

The chickens that KFC use are not caged. The chickens used by KFC are called broilers and broilers are not raised in cages at all. They are certainly not free range either. Broiler chickens are kept in barns which are massively overcrowded, polluted with their own excrement and the chickens are pumped full of growth hormones which causes all sorts of health problems. They may as well be in cages.
