If you ignore the philsophical possibilities of them not being real and all of this being truly non-existent, yes Fish are completely real.

The word fish is applied indiscriminately to entirely separate classes of animal- cartilaginous one (Sharks/Rays); bony ones (Piranhas/Eels/Cod); and ones with skulls but no backbone or jaw (Hagfish and Lampreys). These classes split off from one another far longer ago than the different orders, families and genuses did from each other, meaning a salmon for example has more in common with (and is more closely related to) a human than a hagfish.

Fish is a convenient umbrella term to describe an aquatic vertebrate that is not a mammal or a turtle. It's equivalent to calling bats birds because they happen to fly.

The relationship between a lamprey and a shark is no closer than that between a salamander and a camel.

No, the word "fish" is indiscriminately applied to separate classes of animals - ones with no backbones or jaws such as hagfish and lampreys, ones with bony skeletons such as eels and piranha and ones with cartilaginous skeletons such as sharks and rays.

What is a miners canary and why is it referred to frogs?

because frogs are dying off due to the toxins humans are putting into the air. The miners canary would die as a result of toxic gases in the mines, this would tell the miner it was time to get out. The fact frogs are dying off is indicative of the fact that or environment is on its way to becoming too toxic for us to exist in.
