They don't, they stay separate from the other gas atoms but the particles/atoms in gases move so far apart that the separate gas atoms can intermingle!

Gas molecules are in constant random motion. This motion is what mixes the two gases in the container. Interestingly, in theory, over time the two gases could completely separate in their container, based on randomness and probability theories!
