Maurice ("Maus") Gatsonides (1911-02-14-1998-11-29) was a Dutch rally driver and inventor. Gatsonides was born in Gombong on the island Java in the former Dutch East Indies (now Indonesia). He founded the company "Gatsometer BV" in 1958. Today, Gatsonides' fame largely results from inventing the Gatso speed camera, a speed measuring device used today by many police forces around the world to reliably catch drivers who are speeding. He originally invented the Gatso speed camera to measure his cornering speed in an attempt to improve his driving.
Speed cameras is a shortened version for Speed Trap Cameras which are fixed or mobile cameras used by the police or councils to take pictures of vehicles travelling above the speed limit and thereby prosecute them for speeding
There are speed cameras now in most places that are busy intersections. Speed cameras are expensive and are usually not found in small towns or small municipalities.
They were invented in the 1950s by Maurice Gatsonides. He was a Dutch racing car (rally) driver who invented the camera so he could check his cornering during races. It was later adopted by police forces around the world. His company, Gatsometer BV, founded in 1958 made and sold the device, called a "Gatso".
Digital Cameras look almost like Film Cameras, only Digital Cameras are more "Computerized" and don't use film. Digital Cameras have an Addition from Aperture, Shutter Speed, and ISO, they have Mega Pixels which tell you what quality the photos come out as. Lower MP say 1.2MP is mostly used in cheaper Digital Cameras or web cameras, more expensive cameras can go up to 12.5MP or more, Digital Cameras also have an LCD Display so you can view photos instantly. The difference between Film and Digital is that with film once you take a photo its permanent on the film, Digital Cameras enable you to reuse the Memory card since you are able to delete photos. There are several different designs and systems depending on the manufacturer of the device, but a basic type operates by timer. Once the light turns red it activates the camera mechanism and anything that passes through the camera's field of view triggers the camera to take a picture. Other more sophislticated types work on the same principle as radar. When a vehicle crosses its field of view after the light turns red, it triggers the camera.
