Gerbils are not solitary animals, so you will have to either get another of approximately the same age, or 2 younger ones. It would be better to get the 2 younger ones though. If you choose not to get another one, your gerbil will end up really miserable.
Well, I should hope not! A hamster (that isn't a dwarf hamster) likes to live alone and so they fight when put with other hamsters. I have heard of a hamster eating another, but I have never never never never ever heard of a gerbil eating another. You see, gerbils are sociable and seek other gerbil's company (except for the occasional tussle...)
Yes they can
let the gerbil get use to its old companion being dead.then get a new companion so it wont feel lonley.but it will take a long time for them to get use to each other.but be careful if they dont get along they will fight to their death.
No. I suppose you could try, but probably not. This is because your gerbil will most likely fight since it doesn't smell like its old companion.
Yes. You just have to introduce it using the split cage method. If you don't get another one your gerbil will be lonely and have a shorter life.
I would suggest taking the remaining one to a guinea pig sanctuary rehoming place and trying to get a suitable companion of similar age for it. Let your guinea pig mix with a few that need rehoming and they will soon let you know which one they will accept as a companion and those they don't get on with by their body language.
Yes. If a baby gerbil dies then its mother will eat it or if a gerbil's partner dies it will eat it.
When one of my gerbils died my dad wrapped it up in a peice of tissue and buried it in the front garden. He also put a little stick into the earth to mark where it was
Either its partner eats it or you get it buried. I got mine buried. It's the best thing to do.
Dont get two gerbils then...
Yes. Because when one in nature dies it attracts pradators. So they eat the dead one so the predators dont eat them all. When a gerbil dies just take it out of the cage and bury it or throw the gerbil away in a bag.
Gerbils do not eat their young. The mother will typically ignore a stillborn baby or one that dies for some other reason and she will remove the body from the rest of the litter.
no but they will have babies and when they do the father will try to eat them so if you do have babies take the father away when they are being born. male gerbils fight with each other.
Yes, it is strange but true, gerbils will eat other gerbils.
They will eat each other eventually. If they can fit oneanother in their mouths they will most likely eat one another.
Yes, gerbils can eat lettuce.
Gerbils can eat cauliflower, being herbivores.
Yes, gerbils can eat carrots.
