Best Answer

For a diabetic who has lapsed into hypoglycemia (caused by too much insulin or related medication), they can be life-saving. They work by raising the blood-sugar level quickly. In non-diabetics with hypoglycemia, however, they will cause a spike in the body's natural insulin about ten to fifteen minutes after they are taken; this will make hypoglycemia return even more severely. In that case the best bet is to eat something with some protein and some complex carbohydrates. [Think celery with peanut-butter in the groove.]

Answer

Coming straight from a type 1 diabetic, the glucose tablets work OK, but not as well as the glucose shot drinks sold @ C.V.S. If your having a severe low blood sugar attack I recommend one of these drinks along with a small snack= carb/protien like cheese and crackers or peanut butter on a slice of toast along with it. Remember not to over correct! even if your B.S. is high you must wait at least a minimum of 4 hours before making a correction! because that's how long it takes for the insulin to work correctly! If you learn patience and try to wait the 4 hours before correcting your chances of a having a low will be much less. good luck to you..........

Will starch ferment better than glucose?

It depends a little on yeast type, but they are both about the same. In the presence of one or the other, fermentation will take about the same time. In the presence of both, the glucose will be fermented first. Fructose and glucose are consumed by different metabolic pathways. When glucose is present the other pathways are suppressed.
