It is not in the Goldfish species nature to kill one another or even fight. They will however eat a dead fish or a tiny fish in their container. To avoid poisoning your live fish, (by decay) a dead fish should be removed immediately it is noticed. Please keep to the basic rules below and finding a dead fish should be a rare occasion. :- 1 inch of fish needs a minimum of 1 gallon of water. :- Every tank needs a permanently running cycled filter. :- Every tank needs to have at least 50% of its water changed every week. Follow the above rules and your fish stand a chance of survival. Fail to follow them, and I can guarantee your fish will have constant health problems.

No, just don't put huge carp (part of the goldfish family) with a small fancy fish.

Yes, I do agree with the above answer. But then I saw the most shocking event in a pet store when I went to buy a new plant for my goldfish.

I guess the petstore didn't feed the goldfish enough, and the goldfish were poking at another goldfish! I couldn't believe my eyes! And it is true, there shouldn't be any cannibal goldfish, but maybe they were SO hungry that they did so! But normally, under most circumstances, a goldfish will not eat another goldfish, and i quite agree with that, and was quite surprised by what I saw at the petstore.

If you don't feed them enough then they will but it is pretty hard to underfeed them.

Goldfish are perfect tank mates for each other, but you have to be sure that you have enough space.
One goldfish needs a minimum 20 gallons on it's own, plus an additional 10 gallons for every goldfish that you want to add (so that's 40 gallons for 3 goldfish).

This is not only because of their potential size, which is big, but also because they are messy fish & produce a high amount of waste.

This is highly unlikely, but some bully fish will constantly peck at another goldfish, causing it a lot of stress and harm. If you have a bully fish, isolate it or return it to the pet store where you got it. If you keep the bully fish in the tank, it will likely cuase the other fish to stress and die, most likely from stress and/or injuries. Another reason is that the other fish is super messy and pollutes the water too much, which stresses out the other fish.

They probably don't.I have never heard of goldfishes fighting each other. I have 5 goldfishes in my 20 gallon tank and they are living happily together. It is the Betta fishes that fight.
