Guinea pigs, like all animals, need exercise or their muscles will atrophe (go soft). This is the reason tanks for guinea pigs usually have a wheel that the little animals can run around in for exercise.

Hey!!! I own a dog and 2 guinea pigs. I say that while guinea pigs are fun, they poop. ALOT. So maybe a dog.. but dogs need a yearly checkup and vaccines (pain in the wallet) and guinea pigs don't. Maybe you should try rabbits. They're bigger that guinea pigs, but smaller than (some!) dogs. Also they don't have to see the vet often, but can spread ear mites causing sicknesses to other animals like dogs. ----P.S. My dog almost died from our rabbit that we had and we still have our dog now. (Poor Fluffy!)

Most guinea pigs are really afraid of dogs, they are like giants to them. And a dog's natural instinct would be to chase or eat a fuzzy, squeaking thing. Probably a bad idea.
